in threading, a thin (cotton or polyester) thread is doubled, then twisted. It is then rolled over areas of unwanted hair, plucking the hair at the follicle level. Unlike tweezing, where single hairs are pulled out one at a time, threading can remove short lines of hair.

Advantages cited for eyebrow threading, as opposed to eyebrow waxing, are that it provides more precise control in shaping eyebrows and is gentler on the skin. It can be painful as several hairs are removed at once: however this can be minimised if it is done professionally.

There are a few different techniques for threading. These include the hand method, mouth method and neck. Each technique has advantages and disadvantages; however, the mouth holding method is the fastest and most precise.[citation needed]

Threading allows for a more defined and precise shape and can create better definition for eyebrows.

It is thought threading originated in India over 6000 years ago and spread throughout Asia, the Middle East and in recent times Europe.[citation needed] The Arabic word for threading is 'Khite'; in Egypt it is also called 'Fatlah'.

Threading is widely practiced amongst Iranians, but it was originally only done when a woman was getting married or for special occasions. In ancient Persia, threading was a sign that a girl had reached adulthood.[citation needed] Threading is also popular in China and other East Asian countries such as Korea and was only historically done on brides and married women.Threading is an ancient method of hair removal originating in India.  In more recent times it has gained popularity in Western countries, especially with a cosmetic application (particularly for removing/shaping eyebrows).

How to Do Threading
Threading is a temporary hair removal technique used mostly on eyebrows, as well as the upper and lower lips, cheeks, and chin. The name is derived from the cotton threads that are twisted to pull the hair from the root. It is also known as "tying" or "khite" in Arabic. Here is how to do threading to remove unwanted hair.
Steps

1
Shape your eyebrows. Rather than jumping right in and haphazardly removing hair, decide upon the shape of your eyebrows first. Use an eyebrow pencil to outline and fill in your eyebrows exactly how you want them. This will help you to ‘stay in the lines’ when you’re threading and prevent you from removing too much hair.[1]
If you’re threading another part of your face or body, you don’t need to outline or fill in anything unless you’re not removing all of the hair and need a guideline.

Trim off excess hair. If you’re shaping your eyebrows, trim off long hair prior to threading to prevent pulling them out completely. Use a spoolie brush to brush the hairs upwards, and then trim the tops off with a small set of scissors. Use a makeup brush to brush off the trimmed pieces from your face.

3
Prepare your thread. Cut a piece of cotton thread to be the length of about your forearm; the less string you use, the more control you will have. Tie the ends together to create a loop

4
Stretch the loop between your hands. Hold the thread so that it is stretched between your thumb and index fingers. Roll your right hand in a clockwise direction to twist the thread six or seven times times, or until you have about 1 inch (2.5 cm) of intertwined thread between your hands.[2]

Test the thread.Hold the string with your thumbs and index fingers inside the loops on each side, then pull your right thumb and index finger apart. The twists of thread should move toward your left hand. Now, close the space between your right thumb and index finger and open the space between the left thumb and index finger. This is the threading motion that traps hairs in the twisted thread and pulls them out.

Begin threading. Starting at the highest hairs you want removed, align the twists of thread to that hair. Open your right fingers in a smooth motion, moving the coil down, and then, open your left fingers to move the coil back. Continue these motions, working from the top to the bottom, aligning the coil of thread carefully before moving it up and down the removal area until all unwanted hair has been removed.[3]

Soothe any irritated skin. When you’re finished threading, your skin may be a bit red or inflamed. If so, pat the threaded area with a gentle astringent, like witch-hazel, to calm and clear the pores.

Tips
Threading lasts anywhere between 2-4 weeks based on the rate of your hair growth.
Use a pencil to take the following 3 measurements in order to thread brows into a natural shape: to find the inside limit of the brow, measure a straight line from the corner of the nose to the inside corner of your eye, to find the outside limit of the brow, measure the edge of the nose to the outside edge of the eye, and to find the highest arch of the brow, measure the outside edge of the nose through the pupil. Thread outside those lines.

Warnings
Avoid the painful catching of skin between threads by letting the threads hover slightly above the skin's surface.WHAT IS THREADING?

Threading is an ancient hair removal technique where antibacterial cotton is used in a special method to remove facial hair and shape beautiful eyebrows. An accredited threading artist twists the cotton and rolls this over the skin, to gently lift the entire hair from the follicle.
Most people don’t realize every time they wax they remove layers of skin and some people can be red for days. The redness is caused not only by this skin damage but in some cases a reaction to the chemicals that are in the wax. Threading is therefore a great alternative and helps protect the facial skin whilst still providing hair removal.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
An accredited threading artist twists the cotton and rolls this over the skin in a special method, to gently lift the entire hair from the follicle. Threading removes the entire hair from the follicle, leaving smooth skin that can last up to 4-6 weeks. Perfect for eyebrows and other facial hair removal.
DOES IT HURT?
Once you try it you will realize it is nothing like you would expect. Most of our clients say it is really relaxing-have you ever been relaxed during hair removal? Some areas of the face like the lip area can be more sensitive but generally most clients think it is quite pleasant and are very surprised. Get Threaded have perfected the technique and although our technique is based on traditional threading methods, there are some differences that are unique to us so a pleasant and less painful hair removal treatment can be given to you.
WHAT PRODUCTS ARE USED?
The only product used for the hair removal is a 100% natural antibacterial threading cotton, a talc free powder is applied before the service and a aloe vera gel afterwards if required. No chemicals, toxins or artificial substances are used.
BENEFITS:
These are numerous-here are our top 5!
100% natural hair removal method as no waxes or chemicals are applied to skin.
Threading, the 'Get Threaded' way is less painful than other hair removal methods and traditional threading.  We have spent years on perfecting the technique to ensure it is as pain free as possible.
Incredibly accurate! Hair can be removed individually or in 'lines' to create a perfect shape for the eyebrows. It picks up all the hair on the surface even really fine and short hair can also be removed. It is ideal for hormonal hair too!
Threading has less adverse affects and will not burn, cause trauma or allergic reactions to the skin like other hair removal methods. The skin usually doesn’t turn bright red as skin layers are not being removed and as there is little irritation to the area it is possible to go over the area more than once.
Threading is a suitable alternative hair removal treatment for client’s that are using acne treatments or have been asked to avoid waxing as the technique does not damage the skin and only removes the unwanted hair.
WHAT ARE THE MOST COMMON SERVICES FOR THREADING?
Women: Full face, eyebrows, sides of face, chin, lip, forehead.
Men: Eyebrows.....we call them 'guybrows'.
I HAVE BEEN TOLD I CANNOT WAX, CAN I HAVE THREADING?
